Chainmail and / or swords would be good starters. Making them mounted would also help, though your people tend to not use mounts for fighting.

Would it be considered good form to give our priestess a monetary gift/items?  I was thinking about £2 worth.

Also, I wanted to ask a joint-cost proposal with Valka since it pertained to our warriors:

We have 43 warriors for muster, but I'd suggested leaving 3 behind to watch over the settlement and to train more aspiring warriors.

I just realized that all of these warriors could gain a nice fighting edge (no pun intended) and some prestige if they were all kitted out with swords in addition to the gear they already have.

Swords are 75 d. each, so to outfit all of our warriors (minus Arne's squire) would cost us 13£ and 180 d.  (Arne already bought a sword for his squire). At the very least I'd suggest kitting out our 8 veteran warriors and Valka's squire with swords.  That would be 2£ and 195 d. total.  NOTE:  I've covered the swords cost for the 8 vets and Valka's squire just to make everything legit.  We can worry about owsies later.   ;)

Thoughts?

Arne's expenditures so far (N/I any joint purchases still pending):

* 1 set of knight's (chieftain's?) fashionable clothing:  PAID
* Debt and 1 year's taxes to Geoffrey:  PAID
* Upkeep for squire for the year:  PAID
* Sword for squire:  PAID
* Swords for the 8 mounted vets and Valka's squire:  PAID  (Valka and I can settle the difference in cost later).

I am having a dickens of a time finding armor stats in the source book...would there be better armor than the one I am wearing now?  If so I would like to buy that and pay for the upkeep of my squire.

Also, Craig, would it be socially acceptable for me to get some fancy kit for Peredur as a gift to Cedwyn?

Gifts are always good, and count as conspicuous consumption.

You're wearing Cuirbouilli armor and helm (8 points). Cuirbouilli is hardened leather. Chain mail gives 10, reinforced chain gives 12.

A squire is a good idea if you can afford the upkeep. You generally need to provide a mount and gear, and £1 per year upkeep.

Armor values:  p. 115
Horse armor:  p. 122

Also, I'd advise getting your squire a rouncy; a sumpter is a pack animal (they're not trained for combat).

Oh yeah, that's why you shouldn't try to do multiple things at once.
