Pendragon Introduction
« on: June 13, 2014, 02:29:07 PM »
Hey, put this together as an interim while Dave gets a new site set up.

This adventure takes place starting in 485 AD, when King Uther Pendragon is [trying to become] high king of Britain. It starts shortly after the Battle of Damen, where (through Merlin's sorcery) Arthur was conceived.

Your characters are currently squires in the service of the Roderick, the Count of Salisbury. It is spring, and the Pendragon is gathering his army at the city of Salisbury in preparation to mach against the hated Saxon King Aelle. Uther's grand plan is to drive the Saxons from Britain entirely.

You are in Roderick's army in a unit of knights under old Sir Amig, the knight who trained you.

[More to follow, once we get some characters created.]

You can still buy the rulebooks, but the full set is much more expensive.

The basic rulebook is $20 as an e-book, which is probably sufficient.

More background:

This is a time before chivalry. There is a knight class, but the rule of the land is not might makes right - it's might -IS- right. It is a brutal time, where loyalty and valour are prized and rewarded. Chivalry is not introduced until Arthur takes the throne and eventually becomes high king. Romance currently doesn't exist - that enters the world with Guinevere. It is a brutal time, with much conflict where death can come rapidly and without warning. Even during the "Golden Age" of British ascendance and the rise of Camelot, there are battles to be fought and foes to be slain.

You must know going in that your character will die - whether through violence or disease or old age. Your heirs will take up the mantle, so expect to be generating at least two characters as we go through this. The campaign goes from 10 years into Uther's reign through the rise of Arthur and the British conquest of Europe through to the fall of Camelot and some time beyond, covering a period of some 85 years. Your character will age, marry, have heirs and die. But you will then take up play as the heir, inheriting the lands and equipment of your father.

Each game "turn" is divided into a summer and winter phase. Summer is for battle and adventures, winter is for domestic responsibilities and training. Typically, in a given year you will have a single adventure.
