Character      Roll      Opponent Roll   OpponentResult
Artaigne (29)15/20-Saxon Spearman (24/24)   20 damage
Rodric (28)13/20-Saxon Spearman (11/24)12 damage

Weapon rolls with +5 to effective skill. If you are above 20 effective skill, add any overage as a bonus to the die roll.

For example, an effective skill of 22 gets entered into the dice roller as 1d20+2 <= 22.

It was with no small amount of satisfaction and relief that Rodric's primary target fell. Their enemies may have only been simple foot soldiers but when the numbers are against you anything can happen.

Now turning his full attention to his final opponent he swung his sword looking to end the battle.

[OOC: Sword attack skill result 13 vs skill 24, success. Damage 12]

Another time into combat, the Irishman swung his blade at the final Saxon he faced.  He wanted to bring a quick end to this fight...there was much left to do.

Ooc: attack 15 vs 20 success, damage 20

Character      Roll      Opponent Roll   OpponentResult
Artaigne (29)15/2015/10 (fail)Saxon Spearman (8/24) incapacitated  (20-4) 16 damage
Rodric (28)13/2019/10 (fail)Saxon Spearman (3/24) unconscious(12-4) 8 damage

Horses stomp and whirl around the remaining Saxons who find themselves overwhelmed and unable to withdraw. Artaigne lands another heavy blow, cutting through armour, flesh and bone to savage the Saxon's shoulder. He is still alive, but clutching the ruins of his shoulder, effectively incapacitated.

Rodric manages to land a blow on his target. It is a weak blow, but the Saxon was already wounded, and falls to the beach senseless.

The wounded still grunt and cry out from pain, but they are clearly no threat. You have three ships to deal with.

If you are searching for loot or stuff like that, give me an awareness roll. If you are interesting in looking for possible hidden loot, you can give me an Intrigue roll instead.

Sir Rodric spends some time looking for hidden goods and rich items worthy of the term loot. He doesn't turn up anything though.

Artaigne has better luck, finding a small chest with about 100 danarii in it. There is a bundle of half a dozen spears (suitable for horseback use), and the usual supplies and rations.

You can also salvage five suits of leather, and 10 greatspears, but that would be a bit of a burden for your mounts.

[What are you doing with the crippled survivors?]

Bringing the chest and bundle of spears out to the beach, Artaigne looks to Sir Rodric.  "What shall we do with these wounded?  We can't just leave them here, Saxon or not they are God's creation."

"It appears you had more success than I."  Rodric said to Artaigne regarding the chest and spears the man had found. As to the survivors, Rodric eyed them, his hate for the Saxons slightly over coming his mercifulness.

"I have no compunctions with giving them a quick death."

You ignore the pleas of the crippled Saxons and spend a few minutes finishing off the unconscious and crippled.

[OOC: For slaying helpless opponents, Artaigne and Rodric both get Cruel checks in Winter Phase. Rodric also earns a Hate: Saxons check. For the remainder of this day, Rodric has +5 to all attack skills when facing Saxon opponents for successfully engaging his Hate: Saxons passion. So overcome with his hatred of Saxons, he cannot willingly spare any Saxon opponent he faces, even if a ransom could be earned.]

Artaigne secures the chest of coins - more money that he has seen in a long time - and you spend a few minutes setting fire to the ships. There is more river to sweep. Or you could return to Cedwyn and the others now.

[Actions?]

You've been here 15 minutes, killing survivors, looting, and firing the ships.

After wiping the blood off his sword Rodric strapped some of the spears to his horse and climbed into the saddle.

"I am prepared to continue on if you are." He said to Artaigne.

"There is little reason to wait for the others, we can scout the next camp."

"I am ready, but I must counsel returning to the group.  We have seen too many ships and not enough Saxons.  There is a large group of them out there somewhere and we are ill prepared to face them, especially split up."

ooc: have we even seen any sign of other camps or would we just be sweeping to see if there may be others?
