Rodric rode up towards the manor alone, having left Suger behind with their guests to help avoid any issues should one or more of his people decide to raise an alarm.

It was good to be home, and he was eager to see Habren again.  He'd missed her greatly and gave himself a mental smack for not writing to her during their time apart.  His duties and everything else that had happened aside, he should have made the effort.

[OOC: Didn't want to assume he got all the way, or where Habren would be so I stopped there.]

[She's in the house. This thread is for you, so you can pretty much set things as you want them.]

Rodric rode straight to the door before dismounting.  Calling over a stable boy he handed the reins over and moved into the house.  It took a few moments as he glanced in a few rooms but soon he found Habren, her back to him, speaking with a few of the servants.  As the servants noticed him he raised a finger to his lips requesting their silence.  He could see small smiles come across their faces as they indicated their understanding.

Stealth was not a skill he excelled in, but the servants had done well to keep Habren's attention.  Now right behind the woman he scooped her up in his arms, drawing a scream of surprise from his wife.  He spun in circles with her a few times, smiling and staring into her beautiful eyes.

Letting her down he kept his hands around her waist and pulled her tightly against him as he kissed her.

"I am home." he said smiling and stating the obvious.

She cradles your face in her hands and showers you with kisses, all the while squealing her pleasure. "My lord is home! We shall feast tonight!"

"How are you my love?"

"As healthy as the day I left I believe," he began, touching his forehead to hers.  "And hopefully still as handsome?" he chuckled.

"But most definitely overjoyed to hold you again."

Still holding her he finally took his eyes off Habren and looked at the servants for a moment before turning back to her.

"May I steal you from your duties for a time?"

She giggles. "You may steal me away at any time, for as long as you wish." The servants discretely withdraw, smiling at one another.

Rodric guided his wife to one of the common rooms and gestured for her to sit.  For his part, he knelt before his wife and took her hands in his.

"Your husband humbly asks for your forgiveness and your help." he said.

"We have a...number of guests that will be arriving soon and will be staying for some time."  Rodric stood up and sat beside Habren.

"Cedwyn and I had been sent by Sir Bar to investigate what originally appeared to be a Saxon raiding party.  What we found was actually a group of about 150 Northerners that had been captured and enslaved by the Saxons.  They were being take somewhere by ship when a number of them managed to get free and over power the Saxons.

They beached the ships and headed inland looking for refuge.  The first plan, which was given to us by Merlin himself, was to allow them to set up camp at the ruins of Broad.  But when Cedwyn returned to speak with Sir Bar, he ordered us to take them in and support them until the Earl could decide what would be done with them.  He also suggested that the group be split in two to ease the burden on us both."  Rodric paused a moment.

"It did not feel right, forcing them to be divided after all they had already been through.  I know the burden on our people and lands will be great, and our treasury will be hit hard, but in my heart I know it was the right decision.  There are women, children and even babes among them and...all they have is each other.

So, I ask your forgiveness in placing this burden upon you, for I know most of the burden will be yours to carry.  And I ask for your help in helping our people understand why this needed to be done and that we need to welcome them."

There is no hesitation. "Of course, my love! I will do everything I can to make them welcome!"

Rodric placed his hand on Habren's cheek and smiled.

"I had thought of setting them up to the south.  The majority of the bandits hail from the forest, seeing a group of outlanders may give them pause to rethink their actions.  If that is the case, it would give our people a reprieve as well."

She knits her brows. "You would know best. But these are refugees, yes? If they can hold their own against bandits, then it would be a help. But it sounds like they have nothing but stolen clothes on their backs. They have lost everything. It seems unkind to me to ask them to brave bandits while they are trying to build a home."

Rodric gave his wife a stern look, but couldn't hold it for long and it quickly softened.  She was as intuitive as she was beautiful.

"My thought was that the site of them would hopefully be enough to discourage any bandits.  They are obviously foreign to our lands and brandish some captured Saxon gear, but you raise a good point.  Though a number of them are warriors, or at least appear that they would be capable in battle if the bandits are not discouraged...

Very well, if indeed I do know best, where on our land would I choose to settle them?"

Rodric fought hard to contain a laugh, but it was obvious by his tone he was making fun of himself.

She smiles, enjoying the game. "Well, I know you are very wise, kind and generous. So if I do know your mind, I think you will say to settle them to the north, in the wild lands near where the spring bubbles up from the ground. They would have work to do to clear the land for a camp, but a ready source of water would make their lives easier. And the strength of your house would be a barrier between them and the bandits of the forest."

She smiles and kisses your cheek. "Is that what you would say, my love?"

"I am quite certain I just did." Rodric replied to Habren, mocking an irritated tone.

"Do no force me to repeat myself woman or you will risk my wrath."  The knight's face twitched slightly as he continued to fight to contain a playful smile.

"Now stop lollygagging about and prepare a bath for your lord.  He has been away from home far too long and is in need of a hot bath and some clean clothing before his guests arrive."

She lowers her eyes demurely, a playful smile on her lips.

"Water has been heating since you were spotted from the fields, my lord."

She shrugs a shoulder out of her robe. She stands there a moment letting your eyes rover over white skin and the curve of her arm, before she meets your eyes. "You will permit me to attend to you. my lord?"
