"Did not realize the locals would enjoy my songs so well. We would make ourselves a fortune here."

Valka tried to hide the knowing smile but it was too tempting.

"The Centurion King is indeed away fighting the Saxons east of Norton. In case we are unfamiliar with the terrain... we have ourselves a personal escort."

The smile turned to a grin.

Arne grinned.  "Perhaps we should ride out to meet the king, then, and aid him in the fight with the Saxons as a sign of King Uther's goodwill."  He chuckled.  "I do not think the steward would be sorry to see us leave anyway."  He cocked his head slightly.  "And who would our personal escort be, Valka?"

"Very well done." Rodric said to Valka.

"You have put the rest of us to shame with your skills." he said with a smile.

"An escort will be most helpful, this is unknown territory for Cedwyn and I."

[OOC: Based on the OOC post, assuming Rodric would know that neither Cedwyn wouldn't have any knowledge of the region as well.]

Cedwyn gave Valka a bow of respect. He skill at this was far better than his. He'd been lucky to overhear the conversation and rely it to Uther but it was only pure blind luck...or perhaps God's Will.

"Excellent work, Valka! You had far better than the rest of us. I know Malahaut not at all so a guide will be most useful."

"And if the Praetor is at war, it is best we go girded and armed for war as well. The Saxon dogs will set upon as much any other group, especially since we are not an army."

The next day, you gather your things and head out with, it seems, a squire to the Centurion king as your guide. This was done without the explicit knowledge of the steward. He had not forbidden you from leaving the town, so you are not strictly in contravention of any directive, but it does seem a little underhanded to be slinking away. Still, your goal in the king, not to be mired in dealing with functionaries.

It is a journey of some two days, through wet country. The lands between the lakes is pocked with bogs and marches, and often the road is nothing more than a stretch of water clear of aquatic plants. It is late on the first day as you are looking for a place to camp when you spot movement on a nearby hill.

[Can I an awareness from everyone please? If you are successful, then please give me a recognize roll. Remember you are rolling <= your skill rank. ]

Rodric turned to Cedwyn, he could tell his fellow knight saw what he'd seen and knew what he knew.  He also noticed Cedwyn scanning the terrain between them, likely looking for an advantageous spot.

"There are five saxons forming up to charge us." he informed the others.

"Anything look promising?" he asked Cedwyn.

"You have a good eye, Sir Rodric!  Arne grinned ferociously at the prospect of spilling Saxon blood, and secured his shield to his arm.  He made sure that his sword was loose in the scabbard, and turned to give his wife a wink.  "Time to repay them some more for their hospitality, Valka!"

[ooc: Darren...Michelle...how good is your horsemanship? We have to make horsemanship rolls to counter charge]

"Not a blessed thing Sir Rodric," Cedwyn noted ruefully, "They have twixt and tween a hard place. We have to take their charge in place or tale our chances charging in the muck."

He indicated the terrible ground ahead of them.

"They seem fairly confident in their charge and I'd wager if we set a good defense, they'd break on it."
