The Saxons line up and begin their charge while you move into position, shields up and weapons ready. Cedwyn sees Arne fumbling with his spear as if he were going to throw it. Quickly he calls out, "Arne! For stabbing, not throwing!" Red-faced, Arne adjusts his grip and seat to something approaching appropriate.
It has been obvious since you left the city that Arne and Valka are not comfortable on horseback. As they try to line up in a formation, that becomes even more obvious. Their background did not give them much exposure to horses. Arne also fumbles quite a bit with his spear. Valka, however, handles her spear with much more skill.
As the Saxons thunder down the hill, Cedwyn assesses that the two forces are evenly matched, overall. These look like young raiders, not experienced warriors. Their line wavers slightly as they come down the hill, but Cedwyn masterfully arranges everyone so that the weak links are supported by strong fighters on either side.
Tensions rise as the Saxons approach. Cedwyn and Rodric, both veterans of battle, seem calm and ready. For the others, this is their first time facing down a charge.
Then, with a thunderous crash, the two forces meet and battle is joined.
