His target having fallen, Rodric guided his horse and moved into a position to support Artaigne if the man fell, or asked for help.

Hearing the call, the Irishman was not yet ready to concede, and admit defeat.  He turned his attention to his foe, and sought to bring his weapon to bear against the Saxon.  Artaigne knew he had skill with the blade and also knew that he could not continue to misrepresent his island.

Neither Valka nor Artaigne called to Arne for help, so he rested his sword against his shoulder and stole a quick look around the countryside to make sure that no other Saxon raiders were sneaking up on the melee.

Character      Roll      Opponent Roll   OpponentResult
Arne----
Artaigne3failMounted Spearman   (23-6) 17 Damage, major wound, unhorsed
Cedwyn87 (crit)Mounted Spearman   take (22-18) 4 damage
Rodric---   move to support Artaigne
ValkafailfailMounted Spearman   no damage

Arne takes a moment to check the surrounding countryside, and does not spot any additional threats.

Artaign, after so much frustration, finally makes good on his considerable skill, landing a telling blow against the raider. The saxon curls up around the blade for a moment then slips unconscious to the ground. Cedwyn, who obviously out-skills his opponent, nevertheless falls victim to luck, and the Saxon lands a wild swing. Still, Sir Cedwyn's fancy new armour absorbs much of the blow, and his shield catches a great deal of the remainder, and what could have been a wicked strike was greatly blunted.

Rodric had already moved his horse to support Artaigne, but when he gets there, finds the Irish knight has done well.

Valka and her opponent continue to wiffle at each other, neither one able to score a hit. Valka is obviously unskilled with her sword, but fortunately her opponent is not much better.

However, now faced with the prospect of fighting five knights by himself, the remaining Saxon drops his sword and raises his hands. "Surrender!" he calls out in a thickly accented Cymric.

[OOC: Arne, Artaigne, Sir Cedwyn and Sir Rodric are each awarded 12 Glory. Sir Cedwyn receives an additional 10 Glory for the critical battle roll, which helped lead to a victory.]

Cedwyn aimed his sword squarely at the last Saxon.

"Dismount and doff your armor Saxon," Cedwyn ordered curtly, "See to your comrades physical needs. Arne...Sir Artaigne...if you could, please round up the Saxon horses before they wander."

After the Saxon removed his armor, Cedwyn dismounted and bound the Saxon with rope and gag, his hands behind his back.

The Saxon does not seem to understand the words, but your meaning is clear. He gets off his horse, and in short order is trussed up and gagged.

The badly wounded Saxons are going to need chirugery to fully recover. Without it, they'll either die or be crippled.]

Arne glared venomously at the last Saxon, dismounted and led his horse over to where his downed opponent lay.  He stared at the raider with a contemptuous look and contemplated finishing the man off with a swift sword-stroke, but held back his blow.  The dog had no honor, and didn't deserve a merciful end.  Instead, he knelt down and grabbed the man's sword as a spoil of war.  Arne could at least sell it somewhere, or give it to one of the Northmen.  Or perhaps Valka.

OOC:  Taking the Saxon's sword, belt and scabbard, as well as any money pouch he might have.  And if there's no objection, Arne would also claim his opponent's horse as a spoil of war.

Seeing Arne take his spoils, Cedwyn followed suit and took the blade, armor, and any money of his opponent as well as the rouncy.

"Take what you please except the clothes on their back," it was more Arne and Valka's benefit to let them know this was acceptable.

Arne nodded, and replied, "Shall we sling these wounded swine on to the horses and take them to the Preator, Sir Cedwyn?  They might not survive the ride.  It may be better to leave them for the ravens, or at least give them a quick end."  It was obvious that either Arne had no skill at tending to wounds, or he wasn't about to try and save a Saxon raider from dying.

OOC:  How difficult would it be to remove the leather armor from Arne's opponent?  If it doesn't take too long, he'll do it.

Cedwyn said, "We are warriors not murderers. Saxon dogs they are but I'd rather get some small ransom for them if possible. I will see what I can do for them but I am as apt to kill them as help them."

Arne gave Cedwyn an incredulous look, but shrugged and continued to gather his spoils.  "Valka, You will be claiming your foe's belongings as your own, yes?  He was fighting you, and he surrendered."

Cedwyn added, "And we can put them to the question. They will know the size and position of their army. Information about morale, arms, and pertinent details we could use. You wouldn't be able to speak Saxon would you?" He'd remembered that Arne and Valka had been taken as slaves.

Arne gave the bound Saxon a thoroughly evil-looking grin as he replied, "Yes, we can speak their language, Sir Cedwyn."
