The soldier frowns at Valka's display, but it seems to throw him off. "Spies may take many guises and be many things, even a woman. It would not be the first time a seductress has stolen information for an enemy." He hesitates a moment. He keeps his hand on his sword.

"Would you let a guest wander everywhere they wished in your manor?" He spits and sighs.

"On your own heads be it then if you are mistaken for spies and killed. You have been fairly warned and advised. I will not impede your stroll, but I shall inform my Captain that you refused to remain safe within your quarters. Let the Praetor himself decide if your presumption is an insult."

He then steps aside. In response, the men flanking you back off a couple of paces.

You've backed him down, but he is clearly not happy with the outcome.

Rodric thought about responding but felt like their interests would be better served if he remained quiet.  He simply gave a nod to the soldier and then lead Valka past the sentry and moved deeper into the camp.

[OOC: Now I'm a little paranoid so Rodric will be more vigilant.  Took the liberty of doing an Awareness roll, result 2 vs skill 13, success.]

Ooc: you weren't paranoid before? :) Valka just follows along unless I should roll too.

You catch a lot of hostile gazes. As you move through the camp, men look of from their fires to stare. There is a lot of animosity, though no one hurls insults or accosts you as you move through the camp. In fact, silence reigns as you move through each cluster of tents.

[Going anywhere in particular?]

OOC: Rodric is looking to get as close to the Praetor's tent as he can.  But I believe Valka wants to check on her thrall, so we'll see if we can get to him.

As you near the Praetor's area, you spot a set of heavy wooden X's on the ground. Each one has someone tied to it. Some have been whipped. One of them you recognize as Felix. He appears to be asleep.

A couple of armed guards nearby glare at you, but otherwise make no moves to stop you.

From here, you can hear muffled voices from the Praetor's tent. A number of guards are standing duty near it.

Anger quickly boiled into rage at seeing Felix strung up like a rack of meat. Her nails bit into her skin to try and keep it under control lest she grab her axe and bring him down herself. They would all probably kill him and her outright for it, maybe even Rodric too. No, getting them all killed would be pointless and would cause the rest of their group to fail in their quest.

She released a frustrated sigh and looked to Rodric, not knowing what his true intent was, although he knew hers. With that knowledge she strode forward to Felix to see what could be done about his wounds, if anything, without waking the young squire.

Rodric watched Valka move towards the young boy with some apprehension.  He'd known of her intent to see him, but he wasn't entirely sure he was fond of the idea of her approaching him.  Still, it was her decision and one he didn't think she'd reverse even if he voiced his concerns.  So, for his part he watched the guards as carefully as he could with out being overly conspicuous.  He would think that they would call out a warning prior to resorting to violence.

There's not much to be done. They have been bandaged, and a poultice applied to stave off infection. It seems the Praetor is not a complete monster.

This is a punishment Rodric would have seen - rarely - when a young squire made a grave error in judgement. Some may view it as a little harsh, but the boy did make a serious error in the eyes of his lord. He'll likely be cut down in the morning, and given light duties for a couple of days to recover. If his own squire led a potential spy to his war camp, Rodric might be tempted to give the boy lashes himself.

He has apparently been given water - a skin hangs from the wooden frame - and a crust, by the crumbs on his jerkin.

She was surprised that Felix actually was, in fact, treated at least somewhat humanly. Even more surprised that there was very little to do for him. The woman wished not to wake him but also wanted him to know she had been to see him. She pondered for a second before singling out a long, curly lock of fiery hair and slicing it with a knife. Putting the blade away before doing anything else in case a guard did happen to be watching, Valka turned back to tuck away the hair somewhere on Felix that he'd find it.

Arne stood outside the tent, his hand resting on the pommel of his sword.  He truly didn't expect any Saxons to come a'raiding against the Centurion King's camp, but nor did he flippantly discount the possibility.  A few Saxons with muffled gear could get close to the camp, light a few fire arrows and shoot at the tents, after all.

He stole a glance back at the inside of the tent, and saw the Irishman finishing his meal.  "Sir Artaigne.  Or is it just Artaigne?  Have you some time to spare once you've finished your meal?"

Looking around to see who might be listening, the Irishman replied, "Perhaps, just Artaigne for now?  I wouldn't want to be seen as putting on airs as a foreigner."  Wolfing down the last bite of his food he moves to join the Norseman.
"At your service."
