Arne laughed and locked a piercing gaze onto his opponent.  Giving the Saxon's blade a shove, he used the space to bring his sword around and across in a hard slash.

Sword skill:  15   Die roll:  6 = success
Sword damage (wow!):  5d6 = 26

Quote from: GM Craig
if Rodric wishes to swing at the downed Saxon, he is at +5 effective skill to do so. The saxon won't be attacking as he has to stand back up.

Can I attack any other targets without taking a move?

No, you'd need to move to hit someone else.

Curses flew through his mind as he dropped the second weapon.  Clearly he wasn't making a good impression.  Ducking a sword stroke from his foe he reached for the blade the squire offered, looking to use the momentum to return a wound to his enemy.

ooc: Sword attack...

[ooc: Shouldn't #1 and #3 be down an additional 6hp? They failed their attack throw and can't use their shield]

Character      Roll      Opponent Roll   OpponentResult
Arne6failMounted Spearman   (26-6) 20 Damage
Artaigne25Mounted Spearman   take (18-14) 4 damage
Cedwyn5failMounted Spearman   (14-6) 8 damage
Rodric5-Mounted Spearman   (14-6) 8 damage
ValkafailfailMounted Spearman   no damage

Arne, with his powerful axe, takes a major chop out of his opponent, who is knocked clean off his horse and lands hard on the ground. He is not moving.

Artaigne, with the sword provided by the Praetor's squire, takes a swing, but his opponent is quicker, and Artaigne has another minor wound. It is not serious, but these small wounds are starting to add up. Cedwyn lands a solid blow on his opponent, but the Saxon keeps his seat and is still in the fight. Rodric lands a powerful blow on the downed Saxon who was trying to get up. That blow puts him face down in the , knocking the Saxon off his horse. He lands hard and lays there face down in the turf. Valka and her opponent both wiffle at each other, neither scoring a hit.

[Actions?]

Arne and Rodric are now unengaged. You can spend move to assist someone else, or do something else. Even though these are Saxons, the knightly thing to do is let each knight resolve their own combat, otherwise you are kind of stealing their opportunity for personal Glory.

Sir Cedwyn, and the ranking knight, could order others to engage if he were more concerned with victory than allowing lesser knights to earn their own Glory.

You guys are, in general, doing fine. Only Artaigne has taking any damage.

Status:
Arne: 26/26
Artaigne: 14/29
Cedwyn: 29/29
Rodric: 28/28
Valka: 28/28
Saxon Raider #1: 4/24, major wound, unconscious
Saxon Raider #2: 24/24
Saxon Raider #3: 11/24
Saxon Raider #4: 2/24, unconscious
Saxon Raider #5: 23/24

ooc: just to be honest, I think that I should have taken another 6 damage, since I shouldn't have gotten my shield bonus for the sword fumble, right?

And Saxon #4 had a miss in there against Rodric too so he should be down another 6, if that matters now, since he is unconscious.

OOC:  Actually, Arne's using his sword.   ;)

Arne grunted in satisfaction and slung the blood from his sword with a casual flick of his wrist.  He then took a few seconds to look at the skirmish.  Valka was fighting her opponent with an axe, and although she was yet uninjured, it was obvious that she was not comfortable with the unfamiliar weapon.  Rodric's foe was also down, and Cedwyn was getting the best of his foe.  Artaigne . . . the Irishman was looking a little worse for wear, and his own opponent didn't seem to carry any wounds.

Arne started to move his horse forward, but checked himself.  In his own country, warriors did not interfere in a personal battle unless asked to, and he strongly suspected that the Cymru and the Irish held to the same code.  Instead, Arne called out, "Valka!  Artaigne!  Do either of you wish help?"

Cedwyn heard the sounds of fighting die out in a few spots. Quick side glances told him Arne and Rodric had won their fights. Arne's call to Valka and Sir Artaigne confirmed his victory. Artaigne was looking quite the bit worse for wear. Cedwyn felt a pang of worry for his liegman but could rob the knight of the opportunity for personal glory just yet. He hoped Artaigne would take Arne's offer up.

For himself, Cedwyn focused a series of feints, parries, counter-parries, and attacks meant to draw off the Saxon's blade. He aimed to kill as the Saxon probably had little ransom attached to him but even if he only rendered the dog unconscious a random even if but a little would be good.

[sword roll: 8. Success! Damage: 18]

Valka hacked at the Saxon with fury but Arne's call only made her more furious at her futile attempts.
