Regardless of the weapon, you use your mount's strength for damage.

And you don't have to use a spear for the charge.

So if I wanted to use my sword from horseback against one of the Saxons on foot, A) What kind of "to hit" bonuses would I be looking at, and B) What kind of damage bonuses would I get (assuming I hit)?

You use your Horse's damage rating in a charge.

Your to hit would be your skill +5  for being on horse and possibly +5 for the terrain bonus if Craig allows it.

If you swing a sword from horseback, you're not charging. And using a sword, you use your own damage score. When using a lance or a spear, you use your horse's damage score.

In this situation, for the first round, you'll have a +10 to your effective skill. Subsequent rounds you will have a +5.

Also note that, to anyone with an effective skill over 20, you take the excess above 20 and apply it as a bonus to the actual attack roll. Any result you get 20+ is a critical.

Corey, just one attack in a charge. Go ahead and re-roll.

Yeah, I think I'll stick to the sword for this one.  Granted, I won't get the bonus damage from the horse, but I'll at least be an effective 25 on my "to hit" score as opposed to 13 with a spear in the initial attack.  Yup, gotta sink some points into Spear skill.   ;)

Valka's gonna do some nasty damage, though . . .

Did I roll damage wrong?  Thought I was supposed to roll the 3D6 for my sumpter?

For sword, you use your own damage. You only use your horse damage with a spear or lance.

Sorry, I understood that part, just checking to make sure that I read 'Sumpter (3D6)' correctly when I assumed that the 3D6 was its damage score.

Right. SO when you charge or fight with a spear or lance, you use your horse's damage.

How long would it take for 2 or 3 people to go through the ship to see if there's anything of real value?

I'm just thinking that maybe some can do a check while others prepare to burn the ship.

In this world, is the explosive nature of flour/flour dust known?

edit: Never mind, you said grain, not flower.  Although some grains are quite flammable/explosive as well.

There are 2 ships.

It's about a 10-15 minute effort to search through the holds of the ship, take inventory of what is there, and unload them.

It's three or four minutes to fire them.

Cedwyn nodded as he struck the torch a-light.

"West?"

I assumed so, but I probably shouldn't have.

Craig?
