Spear is Valka's highest/main skill. I imagine she'd bring more than one but I don't know what Craig would rule. I don't think we specifically laid out an equipment list for this particular adventure :)

You guys weren't expecting to be fighting. If you can make a case, you can have one more.

Couple of questions, is it 5 saxons as per the text, or 3 as per the combat list?  Second question, can we see smoke from the east where we've been burning, or the west where the romans are supposed to be torching ships?

The list was a typo, sorry. There are 5.

Oh yeah, we're supposed to be sweeping west, the romans are sweeping east.

"The Saxon dogs have scattered their ships all up and down the Humber River. They are far too scattered to deal with them all together. The Praetor has ordered you to sweep west along the shore and fire any ships you find. Others will sweep east. Destroy any Saxons you find."

It looks like Arne has figured it out, the ships are so poorly guarded because the saxons are out raiding.  Is there a skill Rodric and Artaigne could roll against to come to a similar conclusion or after giving it some thought would they come to the same conclusion without a roll?

So much for Artaigne being the voice of reason.  But I guess I shouldn't be surprised, he is Irish. :)

I'm a little unsure of exactly how it works but from what I read in the rules you can use your movement phase to draw a weapon, and a charge happens during the combat phase even though there's movement involved.

I'm not sure if this is a stretch, but my intent would have been to drop the spear and draw the sword during the last round's movement phase so he could attack this round. If that is too much of a stretch then I'll reroll and edit to a single spear attack.

No, after the charge there is some movement and shuffling anyway. Dropping the spear and drawing a weapon was fine.

Quote from: GM Craig
Weapon rolls with +5 to effective skill. If you are above 20 effective skill, add any overage as a bonus to the die roll.

For example, an effective skill of 22 gets entered into the dice roller as 1d20+2 <= 20.

That is a lot easier than I have been doing it, adding the extra after manually.  But shouldn't it be <= 22?

No, the DC remains <= 20. Any result you get 20 or higher is a crit. So, high skill levels remove your miss chance, and increase your crit chance.

I get that, but if the result ends up a 21 won't the dice roller show it as a failure when it's actually a critical success.
