OK, anyone independently looking for squires give me a Courtesy roll to convince someone to come with you. You have a maximum of 5 attempts to find a squire, total combined. So, one of you can try for 3 and the other 2. Or, you can work together. One person does the rolls, but they get a +5 on the effective skill.
Every squire is going to cost you 12d. For every additional 12d you include in the bargain (up front), you can add +1 to your effective skill level on the Courtesy roll. You don't necessarily have to *pay* up front, just promise it. This will get you a squire for up to a month, while you remain in Malahaut.
Roll once for each squire you want to obtain (max 5 attempts). Failed rolls mean you get a low-quality squire (~10). Successes will get you a squire in the ~14 range. Fumbles mean you do not get a squire on that attempt. Crits get you a squire with ~18 skill.
All squires will come with basic leather (4), but will need weapons and mounts. You can find some mounts for sale in the camp: you can pick up nags (not combat trained) for 75d, and sumpters (3d6) for 150d. If you want a better horse, a successful courtesy roll will let you buy a rouncy (4d6) for £2, and as crit will let you buy a Courser (5d6) for £20.
Armour and weapons are also available to purchase, at double the "town" book cost.
