Spotting the riders escaping from the manor suggested that some one was trying to flee instead of being caught...either to warn others and bring reinforcements, or trying to avoid being a ransomed prisoner.

Turning to Geoffrey, he addresses the knight, "Milord, I see four riders fleeing the manor down the river.  May I have your leave to run them to ground with a few men?"

What in Niflheim did I do to deserve this accursed luck?  Freya, guide my blade!  Arne fumed as he angrily swatted at the spear with his shield and aimed a sword-thrust at his opponent.

(Arne's Sword skill of 15, roll of 20 = fumble.  This is getting ridiculous.  >:()

Geoffrey turned to focus on the river when Artaigne brought his attention to the riders. He gave the Irishman a nod.

“Sharp eyes.” He said, quite impressed with the man.

“Go. Take Valka and a half dozen riders with you. My preference would be to take them alive but do what you must to stop them.”

The knight turned to one of his men.

“Run to the manor, inform Sir Cedwyn any resistance is a likely a stalling tactic and that Sir Artaigne is on his way to catch four fleeing along the river on horseback.”

Clasping fist to chest in a time honored salute, the Irishman signaled to Valka and selected three men to ride with him.  Once the northern lady was close enough to hear him he informed her of the plan, "Get three of your mounted men and join us.  We have been tasked with running down four soldiers escaping the manor."  Once he was sure that she understood the task, he put foot to flank and spurred his horse in pursuit.

The female noble lands another blow with the spear, but can only scream in frustration as the armour once again turns the blade. The footman beside her, however, lands a telling blow. The armour takes much of the damage, but the spear head still manages to open up a would in Sir Cedwyn's hip.

In the tussle, however, Sir Cedwyn looses his grip on Witchband, and the sword clatters to the ground at his feet.

Meanwhile, Arne is not faring well. His swing gets hung up in the footman's spear, and the footman manages to lever Arne off his feet and onto his rump. The follow-on spear thrust catches Arne unprepared, and he barely manages to twist aside and turn a full skewer into a glancing wound.

[OOC: Cedwyn has been disarmed. He'll need to spend an action re-arming, or draw a new weapon. Arne will need to spend an action getting back to his feet.]

Sir Cedwyn is 17/29
Arne is 22/23

Artaigne and Valka grab some of the mounted Northmen and break into a trot. They will be some time getting to the river, but Sir Artaigne tries to pick a spot where they might be able to intercept those fleeing horseman.

[OOC: too be continued.]

Arne was near-frothing with rage as he was dumped unceremoniously on his arse a second time since entering the Loki-accursed manor.  The grazing spear-thrust from his foe only served to stoke his fury.  Snarling incoherently, he heaved himself back to his feet, relishing the thought of hewing his opponent down in a welter of gore.

[I hate the dice]

Cedwyn roared in defiance and rage (mostly at himself for being such a fool) as he tried to pick up Witchbane and defend himself. He should have brought a second blade.

Sir Cedwyn scrambles to grab Witchbane. While he is reaching down, the Noblewoman tries to run him through, but the spear goes wide. The footman lands a solid blow, but Sir Cedwyn partially deflects the blow with his shield, and his armour absorbs the rest. Sir Cedwyn comes back up with Witchbane in his hands.

By the door, Arne struggles to get to his feet. One spear makes contact, but Arne's armour absorbs the blow. Arne manages to level himself back to his feet.

Arne uttered no curse or threat as he rose to his feet and slashed at his foe; fury over his and Sir Cedwyn's foul luck had put him past words.  All he wanted to do was to hew down the three Franks that dared to oppose them.

This time Cedwyn focused a little more on the noblewoman.
And provide minimal defense against the footman.

Sir Cedwyn deflects the noble's thrust, throwing her off-balance. He uses that opening to clock her solidly in the head with the flat of his blade. She staggers to the side, bouncing off the wall with her shoulder. She drops her spear, then looses her footing and goes down in an immodest heap. The footman tries to step in an protect the noble, but cannot land the blow.

Arne swings his sword, but the Frank deflects the blow, riposting quickly with a solid thrust while Arne's sword was out of position. The spear hits armour, but does not manage to pierce it.
