[ooc: 9 and 14]

Cedwyn drew his sword, his trusty companion that he knew well.

Rodrick gets back 1 hit point for a successful first aid roll. Cedwyn's second roll failed, and Rodric's roll failed.

Rodric: 19%
Cedwyn: 64%

Also, last round you guys would have won 45 Glory each.

Ok, next wave.

Opponent  Combat InfoArmor, ShieldMW   Glory   Notes
2x Warriors   2-H Weapon 15 (5d6)
Great Spear 10(5d6)
8; Cuirbouilli ( 8 )   1720

You guys can charge (+10 to effective skill), or fight defensively, or so something else if you prefer. As these guys have a two handed weapon and a great spear, they are not handicapped fighting you. You still get your bonus to skill level, but they are not hampered.

I'm on the fence about something - Rodric does better damage alone than his horse does, but the rules state a lance charge uses the horse's damage stat. Thoughts?

Hmm...I would say that if the bonus to charging applies, then you have to use the horse's damage.

Cedwyn hefted another spear.

"Sir Rodric...which do you prefer, my friend?

Good point. Rules as printed then.

Rodric shrugged, one was as good as the other.  "The one on the right."

He spurred his horse on and raised his lance.

[OOC: Rolled a 12.  Combat is extremely deadly in this game.  Two or three average to good hits and a guy would likely be unconscious.]

Yeah, and there's not really a way to increase your HP. Gear gets better as you move forward (so your DR from armour improves), and skills improve, but I don't think there's really a way to increase your overall HP. Mind you, as you get better and combat skills, it's less and less likely an average opponent will beat you, and once you go above 20 in a skill, your chance to crit goes up.

Skills above 20 are treated as 20, and any excess is applied as a bonus to the die roll. So, a 20 or anything that adds up to move than 20 is a crit.

It's hard to rely on that though, increasing skills is a matter of chance.  As I read it, if you are able to increase a skill, you roll against it and if you roll higher it goes up.

There's more to it than that. Criticals earn you a chance at an increase, but you can also use Glory to boost stats directly, no rolls required. That's a winter-phase thing.

On to the combat.

PlayerResultEnemy ResultEnemy
RodricSuccess (12<=20)Failure (14>10)Saxon Warrior #1
CedwynSuccess (3<=20)Failure (18>10)Saxon Warrior #2

Rodrick rides down on the one on the right, and scores a solid hit, doing 11 (19-8 for armour) damage. The Saxon is still on his feet, but Rodric's spear shatters.

Cedwyn charges his target on his massive horse and also scores a hit, doing 18 (26-8 for armour) damage. The Saxon Warrior drops to the ground incapacitated, and Cedwyn's spear stayed intact.

Actions?

[Cedwyn can charge the remaining saxon, but Rodric would need to disengage and charge next round. That's usually an option in non-battle melee.]

Yes. You need 6 yards to execute a charge, you have that, Rodric doesn't.

Cedwyn wheeled. Seeing his friend and brother Knight having a little trouble, he spurred Peredur on and brought his spear to bear against the Saxon.
