Battle at Mearcred creek
« on: August 11, 2014, 01:12:23 PM »
Do any of us have any actual combat experience in a major battle like the one we're heading into?

Nope. Your past experience as squires of Count Roderick left you out of the battlefield. The times when we was on campaign, you were serving as servants and the like in the camp. You'd be familiar with camp life, but no direct experience with massed combat.

What are the consequences if Rodric draws his sword to fight?

No big - he won't be able to charge, is all. And with the way the battle is going, you may not have that opportunity anyway.

What he needs to decide is if he takes his squire's horse, or has the squire ride with him. The horse is effectively lost for now, though you may recover it after the battle.

Take the squire with him then.

Looking for a quick refresher on criticals;

Corey rolled a 20 and it was a critical.  I thought in Pendragon 1's were criticals and 20's were fumbles?  I'm sure I'm missing something, it's been a long and exhausting week but I figured it wouldn't hurt (too much :) ) to ask.

If you roll exactly your skill, it's a critical, regardless of what your still is. That's why skills above 20 are so awesome = you add the surplus to the roll, and if you get 20 or better, it's a crit.

If you roll a 20 (and your skill is less than 20) that's a fumble.

In general, low numbers are better. In a competing skill check, lower than your skill is better, but you need higher than your opponent.

That clear it up?

We have the option to attack 2 targets right?  I haven't decided yet, but Rodric might need to make up for being ordered to only attack 1 target 2 rounds ago. :)

No, you're only facing one unit.

With a horsemanship critical success, does that mean Rodric's horse leaps up and dances on the head of one of the javlineers? :)

Although I guess that roll only applies if Rodric gets hit.

So, Cedwyn and Rodric died, by the rules. I was going to nullify that anyway as it was the first battle any of us had run, but this feeds into an adventure quite nicely, so we'll do that. :)
