Craig, are there any skills/passions etc that we can roll against to get an edge, ie find a weak spot on the giant?

Nothing like that, but you can attempt to gain inspiration through a passion check. If you gain the inspiration, and your weapon skill is high enough, you have a much higher chance to crit.

Discretion is the better part of valour. You might also go retrieve your horses, and try to lure the giant into the open for a spear charge.

He's unconscious below 17, so 22 points of damage will take him down.

He does enough damage to knock you guys around pretty bad, but he's now splitting his attack 3 ways, so his effective skill is only 6.

OOC:  Arghk, I think this die roller does not like me.  Or axes.   :P  Two swings, and now it looks like Arne's blessed great axe is broken.   >:(

Should have sacrificed that goat before entering combat.  ;D

 ;D

And the irony of it all is that Arne's great axe was blessed by Freya, and he yelled out, "Freya, guide my axe!" as he rushed into the fight.   :P

I guess she was guiding it towards the goat. Should have been a little more specific on to where you wanted it guided. :)

The only passion I could think of that would fit is Valor.  Would the +4 to Prudent still apply?

No, the prudent modifier only applies to avoid potentially deadly combat. It's something of a gating mechanism to ensure people don't get into combats too far above their ability.

Valour would certainly apply here. Note that the Northmen could also use passions for inspiration, as giants are the traditional enemy of the Northmen. Arne has a 24, so there is no possibility of a fumble and the downsides of failure, so he's sure to get inspiration.

Honour could be applicable as well. Rodric just saw his comrade in arms slammed around like a rag doll. Honour would call you to defend / avenge him.

Oooo, then I'll make a Valour check for the next round.  Assuming I don't become tree fertilizer.  At least I still have my longsword belted to my waist . . .

Cedwyn has sustained a major wound (damage was greater than his MW threshold) so he's going to need chirurgery. First aid can return some hit points, but Cedwyn has suffered serious injury (broken bones, etc) that are beyond scope of First Aid to heal. He may even be unconscious.

You'll want to do Honor, not valor. Just a hunch ;)

I'm terribly afraid of rolling.. it was nice knowing you guys for five minutes? :D

Right, Honor.  Duh.

Craig, would Arne use an Honor roll instead of Valour, then?  There is a fellow Nord in danger, as well as two knights that he considers allies.

Can you roll for inspiration at any time, including same round you're doing actions?

Yes, I think Honour would be applicable. As I said, Giants are the ancestral enemy of the Northmen. Your mythology is replete with tales of heroes and gods warring with giants.
