RP: Letter from Cedrych
« on: July 11, 2015, 01:26:58 PM »
[In his own hand]
Sir Rodric,

I pray my letter finds you well. Habren has been beside herself since returning home, and has pestered me ceaselessly to write to you. She is most anxious for word from you, and I know without a doubt that any missive sent to her would be treasured. As an aside, such a missive might grant her father some measure of peace, so I urge you to find the time to write her.

I am pleased to confirm the agreement made between us that day at Winterbourne Stoke. After consultation with my wife, and with the blessing of Earl Rodric, I would like to invite you to a small feast in Sarum two days before the Christ Mass. I regret that I have no room to house you, but Earl Rodric's steward  has assured me that there will be room for you in the castle and you can avail yourself of the Earl's hospitality.

My home is but a humble dwelling, but we have room for a guest or two to dinner if you wish it.

I would be most remiss if I did not thank you again for your generosity.

My daughter and I look forward to your positive response, though I daresay she much more than I.

God bless you and keep you.

Your humble servant,

Cedrych

OOC: Is the letter implying that the marriage will take place 2 days before christmas?

It's custom for the father to prepare a feast, but they are of simple means, so he is doing the best he can. If you wanted, you could decide to host a feast yourself. He is of lower class, so would have no grounds to refuse you. But coming to his home to dine and be married would do him honour.

More glory for you if you host the feast though, through conspicuous consumption. One glory per ?1 spent.

Got a bit of a layout together in response, just need to wait and see how the manorial etc rolls turn out before filling in the details.

Cedrych,

I thank you for your letter and I am well, thank you for asking.  I hope you and your wife are fairing just as well.

It is with great anticipation I accept your invitation.  And you need not apologize for being unable to host me within your home.  Given the occasion, I would risk the cold of the winter night with little more than a blanket to cover me were it necessary.  And dinner sounds wonderful, I look forward to it, and to meeting your wife.

As to your comment regarding my generosity, you are most welcome but thanks are not necessary and never will be.  We will be family which means you and your wife will always be welcome in my home, and will always be welcome to any assistance of any kind that I can provide.

And finally to Habren.  I have included a letter for her in hopes that it will help grant you the peace you seek.  Should she choose to reply, I will continue to write to her if you are willing to allow it.  And should you have any concerns about the contents of the letter, or the contents of any that follow, know that I would hold no ill will should you choose to examine them before passing it on to her.

May God bless you and your family as well.

Your future son,

Rodric

My Dearest Habren,

I hope this letter finds you still as agreeable to having me as a husband as I am to having you as my wife, for I have most happily accepted your father's offer of our wedding day to be 2 days before Christ mass.  I would have countered with a date much sooner but I am a knight, and as such should be able to muster at least some small measure of self control.  Though I would be lying if I did not admit the effort it takes to contain my excitement grows by the day.

There have been times I have found myself wandering aimlessly because you have consumed all my thoughts and have arrived at the oddest of destinations with little or no recollection of how I had arrived.  Still, I would have you know that I am doing very well, and fit of mind despite any evidence to the contrary.  And do not believe what you hear when you arrive in Falt.  It was my intent to end up in that horse trough despite the lack of grace I showed getting into it.  There are times a knight wishes to bathe and cannot wait for a bath to be drawn.

Your most eager husband to be,

Rodric

What follows is a veritable blizzard of letters, with 7-10 arriving every week. She must be making messengers wealthy, but since your message to Cedrych, he gave Habren leave to write to you freely, and she has availed herself of that permission with abandon.

Cedrych also sends along a short note saying how much he respects your honour and honesty, and that by granting your permission for him to review the letters before giving them to Habren, you have dispelled any last concern he might have been harbouring about the decorum of your exchanges.

A knightly marriage is, at it's core, a business arrangement. However you find yourself becoming smitten with Habren and her affection for you.

[OOC: Add Love (Habren) to your passions with a starting value 10+1d6). Also add an advancement check to your Honour passion, and one advancement check for your choice of either Chaste or Honest. Maybe make a note somewhere of pending checks to be resolved next Winter Phase.]
